Jam of The Week - Stars

gj_starsSadly, our Glassjaw celebration ends today, with our last song Stars, from the new EP, Our Color Green.

One thing I wanted to mention, before we end our journey, was concerning the pictures I've been using in each of the articles. These images are actually shots of the real vinyl records that were released by the band, in singles form,  in preparation for the release of Our Color Green. I can tell you as a vinyl collector, this was a genius idea. The hype surrounding new songs by Glassjaw always gets the fan boys excited, like me, so adding the additional collect-ability and awesome-ness of a vinyl record was damn good plan.

gj_lennonWe've reach the other side of our new music celebration. We're winding down the new tracks from Glassjaw's newest EP Our Color Green. This weeks Jam of the Week is probably the heaviest song on the record, but also has one of the more melodic chorus' of the 5 songs.

You Think You're (John F**kin Lennon) is a very classic sounding Glassjaw song. I get the feeling it's a song that got lost between Glassjaw's two albums Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence and Worship and Tribute. Where EYEWTAS was very raw and energetic, and W&T, a more polished record, with a bit more melody.

However, whatever birthed this song, it's a goodun. So, turn it up and enjoy.

gj_good_junkiesWe be jammin', again! Time for more Glassjaw with the Jam of the Week. This is week 3 of 5, week one is found here, so let's keep this train arollin with the next track, All Good Junkies Go to Heaven.

This song is a really good representation of where the band is trying to go musically, with their new songs. The very drum heavy back beat and the constant apreggio guitar riff playing in the background, with an almost synthesized sound. I personally, feel like these songs were well worth the wait, as each member of the band had their chance to cultivate side projects and really dig into other genres of music, and then integrate that into the Glassjaw formula.

Jam of The Week - Jesus Glue

gj_jesus_glueTime for more music! Join us, as we celebrate the return of Glassjaw. This week we feature the second of 5 songs from the new EP Our Color Green. Check out the first featured song, here.

This week's song is Jesus Glue, also the second song on the EP, and has a very classic Glassjaw sound to it, but you can hear the new influences they're trying to inject. Unfortunately, I don't have time to go into detail about the song, as it's new and I don't know it as well, and also the fact that I'm extremely busy at work, and I'm already risking taboo by posting this. Though, this is a blog about music, so the less I babble, the better.

With that, I bid you a good Tuesday, watch out for the Snowpacolypse junior tomorrow on the East Coast, and enjoy some Glassjaw.

Jam of The Week - The Return of GJ

It's time to Jam with some new music from one of the best bands ever! This band has been a favorite of mine since I was 15 and was one of the  first bands I heard after being introduced to really heavy music. Before I was introduced to the comtemporary rock scene, my only outlet to get music were my parent's CD's so my selections were limited, but still included bands like Pearl Jam and Gin Blossoms. But, I never knew any one who really listened to anything that didn't play here on our local radio stations in Philly. It was when I met Justin and Tone that I realized there was a whole world of music I had never heard and this band was the forerunner for me.

Glassjaw was the soundtrack to my 15 year old life and as I've grown, so has the band... and I'm excited to get new music in my ear lobes, and I hope you are too.

Jam of the Week - Christmas Time

It's time once again for the Jam of the Week! Now, for those 5 people that read this blog, you may remember I promised a song on Christmas day. Sadly, in the hustle and bustle of the holiday week, I was unable to post it. I apologize for my tardiness, but I really wanted to share this song with people, because it's such a well written and pretty song. The song is Christmas Time by the Smashing Pumpkins from the compilation album A Very Special Christmas Vol. 3.

Now I know what you're thinking... Smashing Pumpkins? Alt Rock? Is this just like the Kinks, with a very fast version of a Christmas tune?

Merry Christmas Baby! We're only 4 days away from the best holiday of the year, right up there with Thanksgiving, and I wanted to share another song I always have to hear to make my Christmas season complete. This week we feature the one and only Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen.

Now, at this point, I know Justin has probably closed the window or just sighed to himself in disappointment, as he is not a big Springsteen fan. I, however, grew up listening to the boys from E-Street since I was a wee lad... so Justin can suck it. My dad and uncle have been to almost every Springsteen concert since '75, and I've accompanied him to one .The first set of concerts at Lincoln Financial Field the year it opened, and Bruce's last show of that 4 night homestand. So, The Boss has a very near and dear place in my heart with any of his music, let alone his awesome versions of Christmas songs.

It's time once again for more Christmassy goodness! This week we go all the way back to the 90's to get that Christmas Spirit! No! Not Kid and Play or RUN DMC (which BTW is a damn good song) it's the one and only Mariah Carey.

Now, I know what you're thinkin'. "What's amatter wit you, you gay or somethin'? You want a cranberry juice?" To these musical Scrooges, I reply, I don't care how crazy Mariah went, or how inexplicably married she was to Nick Cannon, or how many terrible movies she makes. She can sing her damn ass off. And this was Mariah in her prime, so shut it!

Jam of The Week Vol. 31 - Christmas is here!

I don't know if you know this. But it's now been December for a whole week. Which means its time for CHRISTMAS! Which is my favorite holiday of all time. On my way home, I could be attacked by Ninja Badgers, who mistake me for the the farmer that murdered thier clan... or gaggle... or whatever the hell you call a group of badgers, and if I listened to Christmas music when I arrived home, I wouldn't even care about what just happened. I'd invite that murder of Ninja Badgers into my home and offer them some delicious Pumpkin Eggnog and protect them from our crazy puppy who would try to eat/hug them, thust earning thier respect and spreading Christmast Joy to all of God's creatures! So to celebrate this lovely time of the year, I've decided to showcase a Christmas song each week of December.

And, no. I don't care if you listen to Christmas music at work because they play the soft rock station that's been blaring Dean Martin's "Let it Snow" since Labor Day. I haven't yet had the joy of Chistmas music sucked out of me by the retail giants. So, just give a chance. I think you'll like where we go with it.

We're not just goin to the same old well. Dean and Bing Crosby are great, but I hope I'll pick something you never considered before, and it becomes part of your Christmassy goodness. However, this first choice of song, was actually difficult, as there are many talented people who've covered it.

Our impromptu celebration of covers ends this week with one of the best covers I've ever heard, and it's not even in my native tongue. This week we sit back and chillax to the sweet sounds of Seu Jorge, otherwise known as Pelé Dos Santos from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

It was this movie that first introduced me to Seu Jorge.
