Happy Animal Poem Time with Matt: The Penguin

16.03.11

It was on Friday when I was bored
When my friend arrived in his black Ford
He wasn't in a very good mood
So we went to go get some food
We drove around to find a place,
Went to the mall, found a parking space.
And got out of the truck to go inside
We walked by the indoor carousel ride
Originally headed to the food court
We stopped for a minute in Champs Sports

At this point the night took a weird twist
I wanted a soda, I bought a Sunkist
From the little pretzel stand
I carried it in my left hand
We continued walking, right by the Gap
Looking for the mall directory map
And as we walked around the mall
There it stood...ninety feet tall
A giant penguin bathed in the fountain,
Almost as tall as a massive mountain

People walked by, looking amazed
Many others curiosity was raised
My friend ran away, quite afraid
In came animal control in a raid
The wild penguin then got mad
Recalling the demise of his giant dad
Who died in a fire last year at the zoo?
Set by tourists from Timbuktu
It was traumatic, this sudden big fire
Revenge will be sweet...he began to conspire

Animal control began to plot
How the huge bird could be caught
They discussed using a series of nets
Used to capture very large pets
The captain spoke up "that's just absurd
There’s no way a net will contain that bird"
Suddenly the penguin began to run
Stomping and crushing, having fun
Leaning forward, he began to peck
Smashing bystanders down to a speck

This giant penguin stopped his attack
After giving animal control a whack
I stood there and laughed, it sure was funny
On the loudspeaker I could hear Eddie Money
"Take Me Home Tonight" is such a cool song
Quietly I stood there and sang along
The penguin heard me and stopped in his tracks
Then reached to the music store and grabbed a sax
All of a sudden, he began to play
I was going to leave, but I chose to stay.

The penguin kept playing, he had good skills
Playing all sorts of complicated fills
I stood in amazement at this unique event
Surrounded by bodies and broken cement
He played saxophone until late in the night
Starbucks on the left, and Sears on the right.
This penguin was wild, he was a rocker
Playing outside of the Lady Foot Locker
He continued to jam to the tunes he heard
I looked around, my vision got blurred.

Suddenly tired, I laid on the ground
I did not hear another sound.
Several hours later I awoke in a daze
As if I had been lost in a maze
I was still at the mall, but I was alone
I wandered around with my ice cream cone
There was no sign of the penguin I saw
Just crushed people, sliced like Cole slaw.
Preparing to leave, I had no ride
I called for a cab when I went outside

A black and white taxi came to the block
I opened the door to quite a shock
In the front of the cab...there sat a penguin
Silently breathing...revving the engine.
I began to wonder 'was it all a dream?'
The penguin looked back and let out a scream
I wasn't sure what I should do then
I looked at my watch, it was quarter past ten.
Assessing the situation, I looked all around
Not a single person was to be found

Was it all real? I may never know.
I only have memories of where I did go
I am quite sure that I went to the mall
And ran into that penguin so tall
I really thought the people were dead
But is it possible this is all in my head?
He was really there, the picture will prove
But maybe he's fake and never did move
I got in the cab and said 'drive me home'
And this is the end of this crazy poem.

The end.....................or is it just beginning?

Matt

I'm Matt.  I'm new here, but I'm not new in general.  In fact, I'm quite older than the hippo may lead you to believe.

I have a lot of thoughts about a lot of things.  Sometimes I write these things down.  Sometimes they are comical.  Other times, just plain bizarre. You can read them, assuming you possess the ability to read words.

I enjoy thunderstorms and bacon.  You may have seen me sitting in the 13th row at PPL park behind the goal, on TV.

Many times I hear things.  Usually with my ears.  I can also open both of my eyes at the same time.

That is all.
