$9 DOLLAR POPCORN WEEKEND MOVIE REPORT

06.08.10

Happy Friday once again DHYP community! I'm your resident movie buff and I will tell you what IS and IS NOT worth watching this weekend at the movies! Our rating system is simple, I will rate the enthusiasm I have for a particular movie 1 through 9. If the movie is gonna be killer it’ll be worth $9 Popcorn. If the movie is gonna be Battlefield Earth, then it’ll probably only be worth $1 Popcorn.

This week we take a look at the Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg cop buddy comedy "The Other Guys" and Step Up for a third time, but in 3D! Are any of the movies opening this week worth your hard earned cash? You're about to find out!

OPENING THIS WEEK

THE OTHER GUYS

WILL FERRELL and MARK WAHLBERG form a mismatched pair of cops (where haven't we seen that before?) in this comedy/action flick that is sure to do some decent box office numbers. This is a big movie for Ferrell who, while he is hugely popular, doesn't always translate into box office figure (see: Land of the Lost). My take? If you're in the mood for a comedy this will be the ticket, but if you want the best overall movie choice, go see INCEPTION.

POPCORN WORTHINESS: $6

STEP UP 3D

ALL I can say about this movie is that I hope it makes Step UP 2: The Streets look like You Got Served.

POPCORN WORTHINESS: $1

MIDDLE MEN

Luke Wilson as a bad guy? or just as a guy that doesn't whine constantly throughout the entire movie? Doesn't work. I'm sure the story has more plot holes than Ray Cascella's face as well...

POPCORN WORTHINESS: $3

ON DVD THIS WEEK

KICK-ASS

Kick-Ass Dave Lizewski, a comic-book fanboy, decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick-Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There's only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit-Girl and her father, Big Daddy.

Special Features:
# A New Kind of Superhero: The Making of Kick-Ass
# It's On! The Comic Book Origin of Kick-Ass
# Audio Commentary
# The Art of Kick-Ass
# Marketing Archive

ALSO ON DVD: DIARY OF A WIMPY KID (Kinda saw it on a plane, not my bag), THE GHOST WRITER (Not Rider, no headless beings in this just a bunch of boring political drabble)

That's it for the POPCORN this week. Check back next week for more nonsensical movie recommendations!
